The Message from Candise Green

Letter from a Commissioner

Greetings residents of the City of River Rouge,

My name is Candise Green, and I have had the honor of serving as your appointed Commissioner since September 2, 2025. I am grateful for this opportunity and am fully committed to serving our community.

Over the past ten months, I have been actively engaged in the community, attending City Council, Public Safety, Public Housing, and Rouge Days Committee meetings, and serving as a liaison to ensure residents’ concerns reach the proper departments. I represent River Rouge at community events and regional forums, including the State of the District Address with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, town halls, Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber events, and Wayne County Rx Kids initiatives. I am proud that our city hosted the Rx Kids Program groundbreaking in our courtroom, and I am honored to serve as the City Lead for this important effort.

What brings me the greatest joy is seeing our community come together. Whether families gather for Easter photos at the Marshmallow Drop, or children's faces light up when Santa visits with gifts, these moments remind me of the warmth and unity that make River Rouge special.

Before becoming Commissioner, I served three years on the River Rouge Board of Education, including a term as Vice President. During that time, I earned certifications, took leadership classes, and continued to grow as a community leader. I am deeply rooted in River Rouge—my family are alumni, and I am a proud 1976 graduate of River Rouge High School. Growing up here felt like living in a true village—everyone knew one another and looked out for each other. I still cherish memories of Friday night football games, the band marching down Coolidge, and the excitement at Heru Field.

I am also an active member of Union Second Baptist Church, where I serve as a children’s church teacher under the leadership of Pastor Richard Thomas. That work brings me great joy.

Thank you, River Rouge residents, for your continued participation, support, and community pride. It is a privilege to serve you. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming events and continuously working with Mayor William L. Campbell, the City Council, and all departments as we continue moving our city forward. Getting involved was the beginning; staying involved is how we grow.

With gratitude and commitment,
Commissioner Candise Green
